Maybe it's just me, but I swear the alien from 'Abyss' looks like a big curled-up penis…

I thought it was interesting that the Death Star explosion from Star Wars was the one from the new revised edition, not the original 1977 explosion shown earlier in the clip, against the bluescreen. Lucas redid it in 1997 because 1970's technology couldn't replicate a zero-G explosion.

What about Metropolis (1926) and 2001 (1969)? These were benchmark SFX-movies when they were released.

It was cool to see how everything looked before the effects were added.. like the part with the girl in the Golden Compass and with Davey Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean. Weird to see how its actually done when your conditioned just to see the effects.

I’m surprised that Lord of the Rings didn’t make the video. And especially surprised about the Matrix not making it. And really disappointed.

    Hmmm,

Well, no “Arrival of a Train at Le Ciotat Staion” the first effects film ever in 1895, no “Trip to the Moon” ……. no Lord of the Rings, No Matrix at the other end.

What about 2001, nothing special today IO grant you, but a ball breaker to film. Amerrican Werwwolf? the best use of animatronics

Interesting but not authoritative by any means, gotta get the key films in there :) serious ommissions
